Over the course of the Spring semester, I had the opportunity to intern at Reformation Strategies. A political consulting firm here in Las Vegas. My official title was Junior Associate, which was awesome. This internship is related to my Political Science major as I was working in the local political scene in Las Vegas. I was able to use some of the skills I learned in my classes. I believe that this internship has helped get me started on my potential future career in the political world. One of my goals is to be very active in politics by helping get people elected to public office in local and state races. However, I will need to work on a few skills before I can be really successful. For one, I need to improve my inter-personal skills and be able to better connect with many different people. There were some instances throughout this internship where I was not as proactive as I should have been in approaching people and introducing myself. Nerves got in the way at times. Perhaps I would have benefited from taking a speech or communication class before doing this internship. Going forward, I will make an effort to improve on this. For any UNLV student in the future who wants to take a similar internship, I highly recommend ones like this. Especially if you want to have a career in the political space. One piece of advice, remember why you started in the first place and don't let negative people get you down. In the world of politics, there is bound to be some shady characters. Be ready for that. I am grateful for this opportunity, and I wish everyone the best of luck out there!
