UNCMMN is a talent/representation agency aiming to amplify the voices of talent from diverse backgrounds through talent management and entertainment partnerships.
I would say this internship with UNCMMN has benefitted me and my future career quite a bit! While I am a bit scattered when it comes to deciding on which career I am going to choose, somehow gaining a step into the entertainment industry has been a goal of mine for some time. This internship has allowed me to see what it is like to work on the representation side of the entertainment industry.
As a psychology major, I believe my studies can tie loosely with working for a talent management and branded partnerships company. A major part of this field of work is talent relations and having impeccable written communication, especially when it comes to communicating with potential clients and brand partners, and I believe classes on the clinical and social side of psychology can be beneficial in this field. To be successful in this internship, I do not believe you need any specific educational requirements, however I do believe having taken classes regarding business communication and marketing (any class that helps strengthen your professional writing and business knowledge) would be beneficial.
After completing this internship, I realized that the talent side of entertainment was not really for me. While I found creating pitches for clients and researching opportunities and brands that would support their image, I found other aspects of the internship even more interesting such as editing acting/speaking reels for talent or creating captions for our social media posts.
All members of the team had at least a bachelor’s degree and had educational backgrounds in business, public relations, radio/television/film, and entrepreneurship. They also all had experiences in the entertainment industry, the majority of the team also had previous experiences working within other representation agencies.
A piece of advice I’d give for incoming interns is to definitely set goals as to what you would like out of the experience and make the most of it! The team were more than willing to cater to our goals and show us what a career dealing with representation is like!
