Working as a Congressional District Intern at the office of Congresswoman Susie Lee, I have gained so much knowledge and immersed myself in the world of politics. Firstly, as a political science major, this internship has given me the ability to understand the structure of federal politics aside from just reading about it. The internship created an environment where I understand political human behavior while also trying to educate those on political issues. Academically, from my senior year of high school taking AP U.S. Government and Politics to take a class on the Politics of the United Nations last semester in college, I have been able to use my previous knowledge to understand the issues constituents are talking about helped me guide them to the proper help they need. Thus far, this internship has further instilled my confidence knowing that this career path is exactly what I wanted to pursue after law school. Furthermore, the district representatives and staff assistants are extremely passionate and knowledgeable about politics. Additionally, they talked in a clear and concise manner, handling most of the difficult political situations with ease but also they were all constantly learning. While they were in leadership positions, they were constantly willing to learn, even if they asked me as an intern. Due to this environment, fostering such growth and leadership, this internship has benefitted my career because of the work I have done. I have received first-hand experience in the world of politics and law. Lastly, one piece of advice I would give incoming interns is to never hesitate to ask questions and always be willing to learn. Eagerness to learn will take you far in this internship.
