Over the course of the Spring semester, I completed an internship at Congresswoman Dina Titus’ district office. My internship at this office provided me with valuable knowledge and experiences that taught me about how district offices work and how politics affect the city of Las Vegas.
During my time at City Hall, I was able to expand my research skills and develop my social skills through the casework that I helped with in the office. I worked alongside the District Director on immigration casework, and I was able to learn about many important aspects of the immigration process through lessons that I was given by the Director and through my direct work with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Department of State. Since I had expressed an interest in immigration at the start of my internship, I was also allowed to attend tabling events to inform constituents about all the ways in which the office can help and provide them with the necessary resources to move their cases forward.
Preparing for and attending various events across the city also helped me better understand how Congresswoman Titus and district representatives interact with the community. Through Lunar New Year and Black History Month events, I was exposed to different cultures and I interacted with many different people and learned about their needs as well. I also toured schools and helped put together materials for the Congressional Art Competition, where hundreds of high school students were recognized by Nevada representatives for their artistic talent. At these events, I was able to deliver a speech, present certificates onstage, and greet many students and teachers who provided me with more insight about how education in District 1 is evolving.
My internship provided many with the opportunity to learn while also pushing me out of my comfort zone and providing me with the confidence and adaptability that is necessary to work in these offices. I aspire to be a congressional aide after I graduate from UNLV, and the 3 months that I spent learning from and working alongside other congressional aides gave me necessary insight into the schedules and projects that are often handled by those in this role. I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work for Congresswoman Titus and her team.

I also think it is very amazing how you described the cultural diversity you were exposed to through your work within the community and the knowledge that you gained from it. It sounds like your internship prepared you for a very successful career as a future congressional aide!
