This internship at the Love Yourself Foundation (LYF) has benefited my future career as a content writer by giving me experience and connections in that field. As a senior year English major with no particular emphasis, I haven’t had much experience with creative writing or any sort of writing that wasn’t a research paper, to be honest, but I still felt adequately prepared to do the work needed. Because of this, I’m very grateful that my time at LYF included me writing different things. Thanks to my internship, I was also able to gain a lot more confidence in my writing and became more comfortable letting people read my work. I published two blogs on the LYF website and also wrote different segments for the newsletter that hundreds of people open each week, so I had to learn to be okay with people reading my writing. It definitely isn’t as scary as I thought it would be when I first started.
Post internship, I’m more interested than ever in a career in the writing field. It has really solidified my love of writing and made me realize that I am capable of more types of writing than I thought by exposing me to different styles. I plan on being a content writer and writing for online magazines after I graduate. Technically, there is no education necessary to be a content writer, but it’s easier with a bachelor’s degree. A good portfolio is also key to show off your writing, and experience is always a plus, which is another reason why I am thankful to COLA and LYF for providing me with that.
For incoming interns, I would suggest talking to and connecting with as many people as you can at LYF! This is a great way to utilize your internship to the fullest and gain connections and intel for your desired career. Everyone at the internship is very helpful, knowledgeable and kind. Also, have fun! This picture is from one of the events that LYF hosted at Oddfellows, and it was a really cool time!

Hey Natasha,
Sounds like you had a very fun summer. Writing and wanting to be writer takes a lot of spirit, and you wanting to do such is fantastic. Also, thank you for the suggestion on making connections. Networking is difficult and these internships make it easy. I hope your summer was full of fun!
Natasha,
It sounds like your site put you in fields that was unknown and scary! It sounds like you gained a lot from that experience, as it seemed like you gained more confidence in people reading your work and you were able to hone different parts of your creative writing skills! I like to think that is the gusto in internships. It is an opportunity to push yourself out of your comfort zone, which you did and gained a lot from! I experienced similar feelings in my own internship. Good luck in your career goals and I hope you keep chasing experiences that are fearful!
