The LYF is an amazing nonprofit organization that creates a bridge of healing for people. Everyone apart of the team hopes to aid others to increase self-love. The organization has blogs, podcasts and events that creates a compassionate platform that encourages the healing of an individual, the community, and the planet.
Piece of advice for incoming interns:
If you do not know where you stand in this world and need a supportive community of uplifting individuals who want to see you succeed, LYF is where you need to be. You will learn more about how to be a more significant part of the community despite what position you are in. No one here makes you feel unheard or unseen. Everyone from Monica, one of the founders of this organization, to your classmates will support you and make sure you are good.
How has this internship benefited your future career, and how will it continue to benefit it?
Ever since I was in middle school, I have aspired to be a plastic surgeon. I am trying to learn as much as possible to be someone people can trust and look to for guidance and support. Being in the medical field requires compassion for helping people and the world. You cannot seek to benefit one without the other. Being a part of LYF has helped me find many more individuals with similar viewpoints. Being an intern here has helped me confirm that I want to help people find self-love and create a self-image they can be proud of.
Does your internship tie into your major of study?
Which, if any, educational requirements do you believe you needed beforehand to be successful in this internship?
All you need to be happily successful is an open mind, a willing spirit, and the ability to be a helping hand.
Reflect on why you are (or are not) interested in this particular career after completing your internship.
Being a part of an organization where people want nothing but the best for everyone is all someone can ask for. I love seeing the happy faces and hearing the joy when people gather for a good meal or to find common ground. I would love to have this as my career. I have learned a lot about the world around us. I have learned so much about myself as well. I have loved every second of my experience.
To secure a full-time position in this field you may need:
Training: in how to be empathic and understanding
Education: in being willing to constantly learn new things and maybe unlearn old ones
Skills: in compassion, passion, and optimism
Experiences: You do not necessarily need any. Sometimes having experience helps you become more understanding but in this field being willing to learn and apply beneficial effort is all you need.
Hi Tania, I’m happy you enjoyed your internship at the love yourself foundation. I find it great that you were able to be around people who make everyone feel heard and seen. Any place that makes me feel welcomed is a good place in my book. Also, I find it cool that you had your aspiration for your career in middle school and you are now in the process of doing so! I find it great that you want to help others find self love and create a self-image they will be proud of. Again, I’m happy you had a great experience, good luck on your future endeavors.
