Interning at the law firm of Higbee & Associates has definitely had a big impact on me regarding my future career decisions. As I've gone through my undergraduate studies I've thought about what my plans are and I feel certain I want to go to law school. Working in an actual firm this summer and experiencing it weekly has really strengthened my resolve to stick to a law path. I think it really has showed me a lot in terms of what the day to day looks like compared to what I anticipated. I'm a history major and I think being a copyright intern really meshes well with this because so much of copyright law is being written and is brand new, so I think it was interesting to see how copyright has changed historically and where it could go. I've worked in office environments before and I think that really helped prepare me for this internship, and I also think my classes where I learned to write well prepared me for this as well. I think all this writing I'm doing in my major is definitely going to help me when I prepare to apply for law school, and hopefully if I get in it will help me even more then! After this internship I'd say I want to look into different practices and try to get experience with different types of law to see what I really enjoy the most. When I started this internship I was very interested in copyright but as it has gone on I have developed an interest in family law, so I would like to see where that takes me. Overall I'm more committed to this career path now than before my internship! To be an attorney you need graduate level coursework in a law school which is on top of your bachelors so I think while it is a lot of work that it will be very rewarding. My advice to interns coming in would be to keep an open mind, you never know what you can learn if you just listen and do your best!

Hey Nicole, I wanted to say how inspiring your journey has been. I love that although you are a History major you are interested in pursuing copyright law. I do not know much about that kind of law but I loved that you are interested and would like to pursue it more. similarly to you, my internship not only gave me clarity but it also confirmed the need to go to law school. I wish you the best of luck on your endeavours.
