During my time at the Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum I had the pleasure of learning a bunch of different skills that I otherwise would not have the opportunity to learn. I learned how to ensure that guests feel welcomed and enjoy their time at the museum no matter their age. Working with such a diverse group of people really helped develop crucial skills that I can put to use in my field. I think that students who intern here should have a deep love for the arts and a greater understanding of the artistic world around them. Understanding and interpreting the art in your own way is just as important as understanding the information about the art. For that reason I think that students who intern here really need to be able to appreciate fine art and find joy in the abstract. Overall I think that this internship really helped with diversifying my portfolio and gave me skills that I can apply to wherever I end up next. I think that I am in fact still interested in this internship and a position similar to this even after my time here as an intern is over. I enjoy the fact that I get to learn so much about artistic expression and being able to help those find joy in the mundane. Going forward in order to get a similar position I think it is mostly just experience and knowledge about how museums run and how they interact with guests. During my time I learned both the in person and online portions putting both my psychology and sociology majors to use to make social media posts to attract more business to the museum. I am thankful for these skills that I have gained as I have gained a better understanding about how I can put my majors to use in a real life environment that isn't a typical environment for a psychology and sociology major.
