Last semester, I had the honor of connecting with several successful individuals in the field of social worker. I was warmly welcomed and quickly felt at ease as I got to know everyone within the non-profit organization. I would say the educational requirement for students is a basic understanding of psychology. You would of course need to demonstrate passion towards working with children and underserved communities, especially children in middle and high school. Through the program, you will learn how to effectively engage with children, you will learn what it means to take the second-generation approach, as well as, gain knowledge through the most insightful individuals in the department! This internship will greatly benefit your future in social work in various ways, including carrying forward the knowledge gained. Through delving into the field of social work, you'll experience its realities. You'll be exposed to various positions within the field, working with children, attending meetings, gaining insights from successful individuals who share their experiences, complete trainings, and participate in several events that elevate your experience with the program and field. They even helped me become CPR certified! Additionally, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the two-generational, holistic approach the organization provides, and the social-emotional learning provided to middle and high school students in the program when you visit the different schools. If you're considering a career path as a social worker, I highly recommend starting your internship journey with CORE, powered by the Roger’s Foundation as they are extremely helpful, kind, and insightful. My experience with this non-profit organization was both enlightening and rewarding!
