Having had the opportunity to internship at Henness and Haight Injury Attorneys has reassured me how much I really want to become a lawyer. Pursuing a Juris Doctorate will be my next goal after earning my bachelor’s this may. Making connections throughout the legal field will be vital in the future growth of my profession and thus far has kick started that by the many people I have met at my internship. The knowledge and the strong encouragement that I have received has been overwhelming to say the least. Taking on this internship, initial was more to earn a class credit but resulted to be more than that. It allowed for me to open my eyes and for me to believe in myself.
My internship does tie into my major of study for the business management as I eventually plan on owning my own law office. Being able to see hands on how a law firm is ran is very valuable as I have seen what works and was doesn’t. I’ll be able to implement some of these practices into my own firm. To be even more successful in this internship I believe that I need a juris doctorate as it would allow further understanding of some of the legal jargon that is used throughout the office among attorneys and paralegals. Some of the material that I would review for legal research was somewhat difficult to understand and took a few readings before fully grasping the concepts. I am very interested in this career past as I previously mentioned due to me wanting to be a Nevada licensed attorney. Being in a position that I can assist individuals in a time of need especially when it comes to life change circumstances such as a motor vehicle crash is very empowering. Serving others is a passion of mine and being an attorney puts me that much closer to serving others.
To my knowledge some of the trainings, education, skills, or experiences I need to gain to secure a full-time position in this career are the following: earn a bachelor’s degree in any career field of my choosing and earn a juris doctorate from a law program. Once I have earned those certifications, I’ll need to pass the Nevada Bar Exam to become a Nevada license attorney. For any future intern I recommend being open to learn and absorb all knowledge possible throughout the internship. Ask all the questions possible and observe all your peers and the different dynamics that can potentially assist you in the future. I really enjoyed my experienced here and made lot of new friends.
