The internship I participated in this semester was a marketing internship for Cause Marketing Chamber of Commerce. In this internship, I learned many skills that will benefit me in my future career. One of the most notable and important skills I learned that will 100% benefit my career is communication. Having this skill and being able to communicate will help me get along well with my coworkers and be able to communicate my professional needs effectively. As I mentioned previously, my internship was a marketing internship. I am currently a sociology major and a marketing minor. My internship directly ties into my marketing minor, but I believe that my sociology major contributes to my internship as well. Being a sociology major, it makes it easier to understand people, and allows me to market to my target audience better. In my opinion, I don’t think I needed any previous educational background to be successful in this internship. I was given clear instructions and tasks, so I didn’t need any background information.
After this internship, I am definitely interested in a marketing career. I found the tasks I did interesting and I would like to continue doing it. It was fun to do, and I think my educational background can definitely help. Some of the training, education, and skills I think will be needed for me to pursue a full-time position in this career is to get more experience. Pursuing jobs/internships that are in the same sphere of work can definitely help me build up the necessary skills needed to be successful in my field. This internship gave me some marketing experience, but I would need a lot more experience to gain a better understanding of skills needed. This way, I can be successful in my field. To incoming interns, I think the most important piece of advice is to be open to learning and be able to communicate with your internship advisor well.
