This semester I had the great opportunity of completing my internship at The Just One Project. I was an Intern in their Client Choice Community Market. The Community Market provides free groceries for seniors and families. The market is stocked with specialized foods for quality nutrition and offers wraparound services to our clients of all ages. I had the opportunity of meeting clients monthly with the mentorship of the Case Manager on site. Some skills I believe are necessary for a role involving case management are communication, advocacy, empathy, organization, and interpersonal skills. I think the most important skill would be communication due to the amount of networking and one on one client interaction that takes place. This internship will benefit my future career and my entire life. I have learned about so many organizations in the Las Vegas community working towards improving the quality of life of the less fortunate. I have learned of so many resources available to everyone in our community. I connected clients with resources for clothing, work, household supplies, education, and childcare. After my internship, I am very interested in working in a nonprofit organization. I am also interested in the role of case management. These careers are both very rewarding. Under the guidance of The Just One Project’s case manager, she taught me so much about the ins and out of working in her position, and what it took for her to get there. This internship allowed for the opportunity of working with empowered people taking the initiative to help our low-income communities. The picture I have attached is from our Pop Up & Give food distribution which takes place the every third Saturday of the month.

Hey Monique!
I have become very interested in helping the underserved community in Las Vegas, and I admire the amazing things The Just One Project does! I recently took on the role of Assistant Case Manager for SSSD so I would love to chat about the advice and knowledge you received. Unfortunately, non-profit organizations like this are not talked about much in the community. It is amazing to discover & support the plethora of local organizations that are oftentimes overlooked or ignored. My experience with SSSD showed me that we all have a responsibility to dedicate time to helping our community. I recommend checking out "New Leaf Community"! They gather every Tuesday & Saturday to build homes for the homeless: https://www.newleafcommunity.org/
You seem very passionate about helping the community and I wish you the best on your journey to becoming a case manager and becoming more involved in non-profit organizations! :)
Hi Monique,
I think this is awesome what this organization is doing! I think it is important that they are working to provide food that provides a well-balanced diet for families. It is hard to find access to resources like this, so I am glad I came across this post. I think it is amazing that you want to continue to give back after concluding your internship. It sounds like you are just the person we need in positions like this. I wish you the best!
