My time at Calm Clinic was very beneficial and educating, as I was given the opportunity to grow my knowledge in the field of clinical psychology and a chance to practice what I've learned prior to attending graduate school. Throughout my time at Calm Clinic, I was given the opportunity to pitch my ideas towards a self-esteem group therapy project that I was working on with a therapist and I saw my ideas come to life in a handbook that we created for future therapists to use in group sessions. This internship definitely tied into my area of study as I learned the basics of what it would be like to work in a clinical setting, how to collaborate with clinicians and other professional staff.
I am interested in continuing this career path after graduation as I am starting graduate school this January to gain my Master's in Clinical Counseling. This internship definitely continued to light my spark in helping the community and their wide range of mental health needs. That is another aspect of Calm Clinic that I love and hold dear to heart, their mission of community outreach of bridging the gap between mental health and accessibility. This also correlates with BetterU, which is another organization I worked with throughout my internship period.
If I were to pursue a full-time position here at Calm Clinic, I would definitely want more training towards understanding how to use patient portals and the online database of storing patient data. That is the one component that I am still not as confident in and need more practice on!
One piece of advice I have for incoming interns that would like to intern at Calm Clinic is, come with an open mind, you will be learning a lot of new things during your time at Calm Clinic. Another piece of advice I'd give is, don't be afraid to share your ideas, the Calm Clinic family is very welcoming and will never shut your ideas down, this is a time and opportunity to grow, so take advantage of that! Thank you Calm Clinic for a great internship, I wouldn't want to end my final semester at UNLV any other way.
