This summer I interned at the Love Yourself Foundation. My internship position is admin and wellness coordinator. This internship benefited my future career because I want to be a therapist in rehabilitation centers for addictions or eating disorders and LYF has taught me a lot about how to help people better themselves and love themselves. The admin role I had taught me a lot of useful things for my future career regarding teamwork, going to meetings, etc. This internship does tie to my major because I am a Psychology major. LYF is all about helping people love themselves and with my psychology major, I was able to learn a lot. I don't believe you need any previous educational requirements in order to be successful in this internship. I didn't know much at first regarding admin stuff, but I learned a lot and I had no previous admin experience. I am interested in a career similar to LYF in the future, as I do want to help people with mental health struggles. However, I am not very interested in an admin position again, because I want a career that is more focused on directly helping people through therapy. I did really enjoy being on the admin team because I learned a lot of new things, but I really want to be a therapist in the future. If someone wanted to pursue a career like this full-time, they would need to have a lot of admin training, they might not need a degree but it could help, and skills such as time management, networking, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. A piece of advice that I have for incoming interns would be to find an internship that really catches your attention and a role that you would be passionate about. I think a good internship experience is when you are passionate about it, learn a lot of new things, and challenge yourself.

Hey Emily!
I really enjoyed reading about your internship experience with the Love Yourself Foundation. The LYF is such a wonderful nonprofit that does amazing work for the community. It is clear that your time at LYF has given you invaluable insights into how you can people better themselves and love themselves, which is such a crucial aspect of therapy. The preparation you have been able to receive through your admin role and the skills you have gained will not only be useful for a career in psychology but they are truly essential for any career, which is amazing! I am glad that your experience has been so fruitful!
