My internship at the Rita Deanin Art Museum has been a very eye-opening experience. I always imagined that I would enjoy working in museums, and knew I desired to work with a small and intimate team. Boy, was I right. I really love the quiet nature of museums, and the comfort of knowing that I only have three or four co-workers. This internship does tie into my area of study. I am a history major and am using a lot of the skills i've learned in class and applying it to my work. I am interested in this line of work because of all the things I mentioned above. I love the quiet, academic nature of the museum and I love the collaborative effort I get to put forth with my team. During my time at the museum, I have learned how to use archival tools and have gained curation experience. My piece of advice for incoming interns is to just go with the flow. Internships and learning are unpredictable, and if you want to get the most out of it as you can, then you need to just flow with what's going on and absorb all the information that you possibly can.
The photo I've attached is me working in the archive room. Right now we are working on cataloging all of the art in our museum and putting them in the database.

Hi Alissa! It's wonderful to read about your time learning how to do archival work and collaborating with your team at the Rita Dean Art Museum! Its sounds cozy just working with 3-4 other staff members as you really get to know everyone you work with. I'm curious which courses do you think prepared you the most for this internship? Enjoy the rest of your work this summer!
