Hello, my name is cameron Havens the internship position that I have done this summer is at the law firm of Higbee and Associates. They are a law firm that works on mainly criminal expungement.
This internship has somewhat benefited my future career but getting to see some of the parts of being an attorney. I say somewhat because mainly I was working with case managers who were under paralegals so I did not get to see too much of what the actual attorneys did. Nevertheless with was still exciting and fulfilling to be there.
I do not think that there were any educational requirements that I need before going into this because it was all basic entry-level tasks.
I am definitely still interested in being an attorney after this summer. I want to be a trial attorney so most of my work will still be done in an office. Even with trial lawyers writing case briefs and working with other attorneys researching etc is much more than you actually spend in the courtroom so this internship got me to see what it was like sitting at a desk for longer periods of time.
If I wanted to get a full-time position in the position that I was in which was case manager over the summer I wouldn't need any more education. The people that I talked to that were case managers did not have degrees. If I wanted to be a lawyer I would have to go to law school and then sit for the bar. Finally, if I could have one word of advice to research the internship before you go. I am glad I picked an internship that only had 10 hours per week. Before picking this one the ones that I was looking at were 40 hours, 30 hours per week,
etc. Which would be not realistic for someone with a job as well.
I did not have any photos that were specifically taken at the job site but I did upload a photo of what the work looked like.
Cameron, I liked your advice about reading about the internship schedule when considering options. Flexibility is important if one has other priorities which is why I am glad you chose an internship which addressed your needs. Additionally, it was interesting to hear how lawyers spend more time in an office than in the courtroom. Glad to hear that your internship engaged your priorities.
