This internship has given me the opportunity to experience what it’s like to work in a position that requires the knowledge and skill of what I have learned throughout my collegiate career. I have benefited from this internship in ways that I did not anticipate. Going into this internship, I was looking forward to having this under experience on my resume, as I feel like most interns anticipate. However, being in this position for a little over a month has allowed me to acquire more knowledge and experience than in any classroom setting. The internship has opened potential career opportunities. It has given me further ideas of what I could possibly pursue as a career. I took this internship for the experience and to say that I did an internship throughout my collegiate career, but I also did it because I was at a point in my life where I unsure of what I wanted to do with my degree. With the knowledge that I have acquired throughout my psychology and family studies courses, I was able to apply it at my internship. I believe that it helped me understand how diverse the community is, and witness the different adversities that individuals and families go through everyday of their lives. It has opened my eyes to the imperfections and issues in our community that are not being addressed. It has also increased my desire to help individuals and families even more. The internship has also made me want to pursue a career in social work because of the high demand for people to fill positions such as case managers. Now that I am more aware of this potential career, I know that I need to continue my education to attain my bachelors, as well as complete a training program to become certified.
One piece of advice that I would like to give to incoming interns is to come with an open mind. "Expect the unexpected" is the perfect saying for this position because you won't know or understand the depth of this position until you are physically there. Lastly, take advantage of the opportunity to take part in an internship because I guarantee you that it will benefit you and your future career one way or another.

Expect the unexpected! BEAUTIFUL!
Hello Valeria,
I really like your advice! It is important to keep an open mind when going into your internship. While you may have an idea of what to expect things may change or it may be completely different to what you expected. This will help you take better advantage of the opportunity. Great post!
