I decided to intern with the Love Yourself Foundation (LYF) which is a non profit organization dedicated to improving mental well-being through art, music, workshops, blogs, and live events. They were a really awesome team, so I'd definitely recommend anyone to intern with them! I was a research assistant with LYF. My primary goal was to find survey questions in articles that could be used to craft our own program evaluation survey.
The internship has provided me with knowledge on what working on research is like. It will continue my future career endeavors because I learned that I'm not really fond of doing research, therefore I will seek to avoid doing research in a future career.
My internship did not exactly tie into my major. If anything, it ties more into psychology or counseling, but I think learning research skills can be applied to pretty much any major.
No educational requirements were necessary whatsoever. No prior experience was needed. Everything could be learned at the internship, which was great!
My internship site does not offer jobs, but does have volunteer positions for those who seek to continue to work with them. I however already told them that I will be discontinuing my tenure with them, as working with them does not really adhere to my future career goals.
Hard skills do not seem to be a requirement for LYF. Good listening skills and leadership character might be a plus, however. If anything, the best-suited individuals for LYF are people who are empathetic and excel in teamwork.
Time-management. Learn some good time management skills so you can stay on top of your work!
