When I began my internship, I found myself thankful for the skills of adaptability and flexibility that I had received throughout my educational experiences. These skills, alongside effective communication are what I used the most throughout my internship. Having my internship be my first year of teaching has helped me gain first hand experience in a professional career. This experience has set a foundation for my future career endeavors. I have learned universal skills such as public speaking, understanding different learning styles, and time management that will cross over to other professions. My internship relates to my major of political science because I received real world experiences in understanding how different people learn and engage with information which can be applied to political science research and methods. I am also involved with different backgrounds and diverse perspectives which are qualities that are important in political science when speaking about representation or equality. After reflecting on my experience, this career field is not a field that I want to continue to pursue. I am grateful for what I have gained from this internship and have a deeper appreciation for the hard work that teachers do, but I do not see myself pursuing this as a long term career. The demanding nature of teaching and having to fulfill many roles is truly an investment. Although, I would not trade this experience because I have found my strengths that will help me achieve my future professional goals and chose a long term career that brings me satisfaction.
