Core Powered by The Rogers Foundation is a non-prohibitable organization that provides kids with opportunities, and providing the experiences and tools needed to lead choice-filled lives outside of school. My duties as an intern were to help facilitate programming. Each lesson that our scholars received helped aligns their strengths with career and career opportunities. Each week I would help scholars develop stronger character skills. This will benefit my future career because my goal for the future is to work with kids. My internships helped me develop interpersonal skills that helped me make a strong connection with the scholars and help me understand their needs. My internship tied in with my major because I was able to work with kids. In order for me to help my scholars build a stronger character I would need to understand their behavior in order to design more engaging and effective lesson plans and classroom experiences. The onboarding process of my internship included social-emotional workshops that I needed to complete in order for me to start working with the scholars. I believe that these social-emotional workshops helped me prepare to connect with scholars.
Before my internship, I never saw myself working with kids, because I always thought that I don’t have the patience for kids. Now I realize how much I related to kids and how my reliable experiences can help make a difference in their lives. I could consider myself continuing to work in this particular career field. After I received my bachelor I can consider securing a full-time position in this field. I would need to attend workshops that deal with social-emotional learning. One piece of advice I have for incoming interns is to pick an internship site that is not 30 minutes away from home. I didn’t enjoy those 30 minutes long drives back home after my internship hours.

For this lesson scholars were tasked with making the "mask" you figuratively wear on a daily basis. The main point of this lesson was for scholars to show scholars how easy hiding emotions can be but eventually, we have to take off that mask in order to express our true selves.
I'm glad you had such a good experience and potentially changed your mindset about what you could do afterwards! You made a valid point though, commute times is absolutely something to consider when taking any role!
