I have enjoyed every moment interning at Van Law Firm. Since January, I have learned how to improve my research skills, draft legal documents, and assist in court preparations for personal injury, premise liability, and mass tort cases. Working at Van Law Firm has also helped me socially network with attorneys, paralegals, law clerks, case managers, and law students. Speaking with these individuals and developing a relationships with them has helped me gain a more comprehensive idea of what the inner working of a law firm look like and the coursework I can expect when I go to law school.
This internship is primarily directed at college students that have strong reading comprehension, writing, and analytical skills that are interested in pursuing legal work. My history degree directly ties into this skill set, as we are taught not only how to become strong writers, but our reading comprehension is constantly tested as well based on how well you can parse through large amounts of information to decipher primary arguments and supporting evidence.
I am still interested in pursuing legal work after completing this internship and Sandy Van has extended me a full time litigation assistant position after graduation. The training and education required for this field of work is dependent on your desired position. If I am to become an attorney, I will have to go to law school after graduation and pass the bar exam(s) for the state(s) that I would like to practice in.
For any future UNLV students that are hard workers and who have an interest in law, I would recommend interning at Van Law Firm!

Hey Lily!
It's great you got some experience in litigation. I also interned at a personal injury law firm this semester, but I was never really involved in that process. Most of what I did was basic paperwork, organization, and a lot of contact with insurance companies. Given my interest in law school I was hoping to learn more about litigation. If a legal career is something you're interested in long-term I think it's great you got that opportunity. It sounds like you learned a lot and made a lot of great connections. Networking is something always important in law. Best of luck to you!
