My time at Nevada Senior Services I have learned a lot in a short period of time. This Internship has opened my eyes to the process of end of life for elders and the living conditions some elders are put through due to financial instability. I worked with all types of families during my Internship which I thank UNLV for, teaching me to be diverse and open minded of all people and situations. Being a intern at this site I learned to care for families and individuals in their time of need, I learned that people are scared to transition into the end of life process without family or support and they will yell and scream at you because they are afraid to not wake up the next day. I have worked with individuals that are ready to leave this earth, but continue to fight through the pain for their loved ones. I use to be afraid of working with elders because I always thought they were rude and if I messed up I could possibly be the last person they spoke to before death, but working for Nevada Senior Services I have gained the courage to work with elders and provide the utmost care and compassion I can give before we discontinue services or they pass away.
Hi Marissa,
I enjoyed reading about your internship and your experience working there. Sometimes it is easy to overlook some of the struggles of the elderly and your experience was able to convey how meaningful it is to help. I haven't seen the process of helping the elderly who are without family support and it sounds heartbreaking to read about. It is fortunate that your internship existed and you were able to let us know about it.
Hi Marissa,
your story and internship is amazing. hearing you overcome such obstacles and find a love for this internship is inspiring. I have always had the same feeling towards elderly homes but now I have a whole new perspective through you and your experiences. One thing that is truly amazing about volunteering at the elders homes that you could be someone who helps them through a hard time in their life and they need people to volunteer.
Hi Marissa, I've also been interning at a facility that deals with elders struggling with the end-of-life process. It's been a huge realization to me to see just how much of a toll it can have on everyone involved, not just the family or the individual themselves. Your time at Nevada Senior Services sounds like it has been very insightful to this process, as I've recently realized how much there really is to learn and understand about this field.
I'm glad you were able to have an eye-opening experience at your internship. Your journey thus far really does sound like it opened you up to different perspectives. It does sound super hard to go through though. I applaud you for overcoming your fear and that Nevada Senior Services helped you a lot. Caring for someones loved one is not an easy task and is sometimes heavy on the heart. Great work.
