This internship benefited my future career as it lets me explore different paths and discover what things I enjoy doing in a work environment. It will continue to help me as it has opened my eyes to the program and all it has to offer and what I could potentially offer too. It has shown that I could still help the kids and the program even when the internship ends. The internship does tie in with my major because it is observing the kids, and what they need versus what they want. It is also seeing where the kid is at mentally as these kids have had a difficult life and I believe the study of psychology, especially working with kids when they are at their most vulnerable is very important. Educational requirements needed beforehand would be just basics psychology and criminal justice would be helpful. Otherwise just coming into this program with an open mind and eagerness to learn is just as important. I would be interested in this career afterward because I genuinely enjoy working with kids and feel like making a difference. I believe it incorporates everything I am studying for. Training is needed with on-the-job experience, and background knowledge of psychology and criminal justice is useful. Otherwise just dedicating your time and being with the kids is needed. The requirement is just learning how to make these tough decisions and the right thing to do. One piece of advice would be to be involved and take in the experience.
