How has this internship benefited your future career, and how will it continue to benefit it?
The internship has forced me to practice complete self reliance in research projects. I have chosen my own topics, done my own research and written my own papers without much guidance or assistance. This has been beneficial in practicing managing your own time and expectations.
Does your internship tie into your major of study? Please elaborate. My major is in Anthropology and I will indeed have to engage in written research so this is directly related to my degree. Plus with SASA I have been able to write on Anthropology topics which has given me time to study topics in much more depth than I have been able to do in any of my classes given how much time I was able to dedicate to single topics.
Which, if any, educational requirements do you believe you needed beforehand in order to be successful in this internship?
You just have to be familiar with writing and basic research but other than that you can learn as you go.
Reflect on why you are (or are not) interested in this particular career after completing your internship.
I love writing and being able to dedicate myself to learning about a topic to write something valuable is incredibly rewarding. This is something I am very interested in engaging in during my career.
Identify training, education, skills, or experiences you need to gain in order to secure a full-time position in this field, if you choose to pursue it.
I will have to go to an archeological or anthropology field school in order to qualify for most posted positions in the field which I intend to do in 2024.
What is one piece of advice you have for incoming interns?
Dont wait to be given explicit instructions, just dive in head first and do your best to produce quality work.
Include at least one relevant and appropriate photo that corresponds with your internship experience.
Hi Anthony! I also interned with SASA on the recruitment team. It's so interesting to see how different internships can be with the same organization. Your experience with research makes me want to try what the other teams had to offer. I definitely agree with the self reliance part though. There were times when my recruitment coordinator was unavailable and I needed to just get things done without instructions or guidance. I hope you have good luck pursuing your future career!
