This internship benefitted me with my future career due to it showing me how to do an extensive amount of research on various topics at once as well as the importance of mental health. I will continue benefiting from it because I plan on going into the clinical psychology field and being able to research for an extended period of time is a must as well as learning how one can improve the mental health world. My internship does tie into my major. My internship was with Mental Health Spectrum and one of their main goals is to spread mental health awareness, as a psychology major one of my main reasons for wanting to be involved in mental health is so I can spread awareness to those out there who are struggling and who are not getting the proper support that they need mentally. For this internship I believe the only educational requirement needed is to at least be in your second semester of your freshman year. Since there is a good portion of research that needs to be done, someone with some research experience will be needed to be successful with this internship. I’m interested in this particular career because I want to spread awareness of mental health especially those in an underrepresented group. In order to secure a full-time position in the Clinical Psychology field, I need to apply to a doctorate program, have lab experience, and complete a clinical psychology internship. This field is somewhat tricky to get into but the journey would be worth it. Incoming interns should know that an internship is kind of like a practice job before starting your career, take it seriously so you can determine if you want to work in said field for a while.

Hi Jaedis,
I truly enjoyed reading your post about your experience at Mental Health Spectrum. I am new to research, so I do not have a lot to say, but from what I know, there is always so much to learn and explore. It is so cool that you could have the opportunity to do research in such an important field. Amazingly, you plan to be a clinical psychologist. Not enough people believe in helping people in this aspect of life. I hope that your journey in this field goes exceptionally well. Thank you so much for sharing.
