This internship has introduced me to being in a professional environment. All of my past work experiences have been informal and this experience has given me the opportunity to expand my network and develop myself professionally. This internship will continue to benefit my career as I have met so many new people who can help me grow in my future. My internship has tied into my major of study as I am a psychology major, and I was a Peer Mentor for PSY 200 students. This again, allowed me to meet new people who had similar interests as I, and I was able to help them on their way to graduation. A lot of students also helped me learn a lot about UNLV and different opportunities. I don’t believe that you need much educational requirements before this internship, other than being in PSY 200. To be a peer mentor you just need to have the want to help people get where they want in their career. I am interested in continuing in psychology, but I am not sure if I want to continue to be a peer mentor long term, I am however, very excited to be staying on for next semester as well. There is some training that is needed before beginning having meetings with mentees, but I do not believe that you can have a full-time job in this role. For incoming peer mentors, I would say to enjoy the mentees that engage in the program, those are the people that are going to continue to succeed because of you.

Hello Dylan, thank you for sharing!
Your post made being a PSY 200 Peer Mentor sound like a lot of fun! I also feel as though my internship allowed me to develop professionally. I am glad to hear that your position gave you a lot of networking opportunities. I remember the peer mentor from my PSY 200 class was always extremely helpful and always answered whenever I had a question, so props to you for being able to help so many others in the right direction! Overall, great post!
