My internship at Calm Clinic has been a fruitful one. It confirmed for me that I want to continue my path further into Clinical Psychology. My enthusiasm and excitement came so easily when in this environment. I was able to become more confident and prove to myself that I can connect with others in a meaningful way and have a unique perspective to offer the world. This environment was one in which psychology directly applied, as patients received medication along with mental checkups. I was surrounded by professionals, watching Physical Assistants at work. I greatly admired how they handled situations with patience, professionalism, and boundaries. These are some qualities you must have to work in this type of setting. In addition, it is important to have conflict management skills. Although I do not want to be a Physical Assistant, having this internship made me see just how much healthcare is a community effort, especially in the mental health care field. The maintained professionalism of healthcare providers is significant because patients rely on them greatly. It was clear that therapy and medication are in high demand by the public. My heart yearned to help more. I need to continue my education and get a Ph.D. in clinical psychology to be able to integrate into a similar field. I recommend incoming interns that look closely at the internship before accepting. I would’ve liked for me to have a more defined and involved role. It is also important to remember that you have a voice, work to better yourself, and learn more.
