This summer I had the awesome opportunity of being a research intern at Calm Clinic Psychiatry. This internship has given me a look into what my future profession may look like. I have had many opportunities to shadow the providers at the clinic and see how a usual psychiatric appointment looks like. My experience has solidified my ambition to be
to become a neuropsychologist because I realized I love seeing patients who may be suffering with everyday life and would love to be party of the solution to help them get back to who they are. With it being a psychiatric clinic it has successfully tied into my major in Psychology. I think that although there weren't educational requirements I think that some education on specific medications commonly used to treat psychiatric conditions. I took psychopharmacology before this internship and it has helped me understand what the providers are referring to during the psychiatric appointments. I would need to pursue a Phd in clinical psychology if I would like to become a full time neuropsychologist. I think that one piece of advice I have for any future interns would be to be persistent. I think the best approach that I noticed when networking with other professionals and the providers at the clinic was to be persistent in speaking with them. In the beginning it was difficult to be able to talk to them because it was intimidating. Ultimately, being persistent about speaking with them and asking to shadow them throughout their sessions. I provided a photo of the paddle for the TMS treatment that the clinic offers for patients with treatment resistant depression.
