My internship is at a company called Positivecasts. They are a business that has rooted themselves deep in the podcast world. Some of their services include podcast launching, podcast production, podcast guest booking, content and social media production, strategy and website design. I was very excited to start this internship because I do not have a deep understanding of any of the services they provide. I currently work in education and plan to be a high school special ed teacher. I also currently coach high school football and basketball which I plan to continue as well. I have been fortunate to meet a lot of people from different walks of life during my 14-year coaching career. When COVID hit and we had so much time off, I decided I wanted to start a podcast. I will tap into the many relationships I have fostered over the last decade plus of coaching and ask the coaches, players, former players and different sports personalities that I know to be guests on my podcast as we discuss high school sports and many other topics. Although I do not plan on podcasting to be the main focus of my future career, it is something that I plan to do and be a part of for many years. PE was one of my areas of study and coaching is directly related to PE. Even though teaching will be the main focus of my future career, I will have a much better opportunity at a teaching job because of my ability to coach and contribute to the culture of the school. The biggest educational requirement that I have needed so far is the ability to research. I am researching podcasts for clients to be guests on. However, there are specific requirements that are needed for the clients. The research can be a little tedious, but it is the same thing we have worked on in IDS. I am very interested in podcasting in the future. I think it is a fun way to connect with people and more importantly learn from the conversations I will have on the podcast. The things I will learn I believe will make me a better educator and coach. If I wanted to choose podcasting as my main career I would need to do a lot of training to learn the different software to edit and produce the podcasts. I would also need to be a little savvier with social media. If I could give incoming interns a piece of advice, I would tell them to listen to a few different podcasts before they start. Listening to different podcasts will give them some insight into the different formats of different podcasts. I would also let them know to be ready to use social media to research.
