Reflecting on my experience as a remote recruiting intern for the Save Ancient Studies Alliance (SASA) has been both enlightening and challenging. Despite initially navigating the challenges of remote work, I quickly adapted to the responsibilities entrusted to me by my internship supervisor who is the recruitment coordinator on SASA's executive team. My role encompassed a diverse range of tasks, such as posting job listings to various job boards like Volunteer Match, sending cold messages on Handshake to masters/PhD students, updating team spreadsheets, sending professional emails to other colleagues in the organization, scheduling and conducting interviews with people applying to join our organization. I believe the qualifications to be successful at my position in the internship, is to be somewhat extraverted and being at least a college junior will be advantageous. Engaging in discussions with academics, graduate students, and PhDs require a fairly nuanced understanding of academia, which I gained through my numerous years as a student at a University in San Antonio, Texas and as a transfer undergrad at UNLV. My experience in navigating higher education at both Universities equipped me with a solid foundation to navigate conversations and comprehend the scholarly landscape effectively.
This internship has illuminated potential career pathways for me. While I truly enjoyed my time as a recruiting intern, it became evident that my true vocational aspirations lie elsewhere. My passion for fashion, entrepreneurship, and venture capitalism ultimately steers the destination of my career. also, the skills acquired during my time at SASA are transferable and enhance my skillset for future endeavors.
As I continue to contemplate my future career, I recognize the importance of acquiring additional training and skills pertinent to my desired career path. To excel in the arena of fashion, entrepreneurship, and venture capitalism, I understand the significance of practical experience, networking, and specialized knowledge. Therefore pursuing more internships or mentorships in relevant industries that will augment my business acumen, and foster an entrepreneurial mindset are steps I aim to take to realize my professional ambitions.
My time with SASA has been a wonderful experience that I am blessed to have, As I embark on new ventures, I carry with me the lessons learned from this internship, as I am poised to navigate the dynamic landscape of my chosen field with confidence and high energy. While my journey will diverge from the path of Ancient Studies, the lessons I learned and skills acquired will undoubtedly continue to help me in my future endeavors.
