I had a great experience throughout my internship working at the Calm Clinic. Before acquiring my internship, it helped a lot having a good GPA and making sure to always connect with my supervisor about interviews and deadlines in a timely manner. In order to be successful at my internship, I needed to go above and beyond in letting my supervisor know I am interested in helping her with whatever she needed. Whether that be working online helping her with provider/insurance documentations or taking patients vitals in the office, I was willing to help. I also found it to be very helpful when I completed my assigned work in a timely manner. When in the office working 1-on-1 with the patients and providers, I made sure to always keep a positive attitude and friendly environment around me. This internship will benefit me in the future because it has given me first hand experience of what it looks like and what it takes to work as a psychiatrist and/or therapist in a mental health office. I am studying psychology in my undergraduate degree and have been able to view first hand some of the struggles patients with different mental health disorders face such as Anxiety, Depression, and PTSD. After working at the Calm Clinic and being able to shadow providers working with these patients, I strongly believe this is the field of study I would like to go into. I enjoyed every moment coordinating and connecting with the patients and doctors. In order to become a skilled therapist/psychiatrist I believe one needs to practice empathy and patience, as well as be able to control the outside forces and emotions going on within themselves. To be a good therapist is to advocate for your patient and ensure they feel safe and listened too, while trying to aid in their mental clarity. Once I graduate with my Bachelors in Psychology and go on for my Masters in either Couple and Family Therapy or Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I will be able to start practicing to be a great therapist.
