Working at Calm Clinic was an overall great experience! It reaffirmed my desires of working in the mental health field, and it opened up new possible paths that I could take as a psychology major. When I started interning here, I met and worked with licensed healthcare providers as well as providers in training who have discussed with me the various journeys towards their positions, and I got a feel for the work that they do daily. Some of them were licensed clinicians of social work (LCSWs), others were doctors/residents, and most were certified physician assistants (PA)- which was a career choice I had only discovered through this experience. While of course a person must get a PhD to become a resident, a person could enter PA school instead of doing a masters degree to do therapy work- this could also be helpful in pursuing other medical practices. Learning and working with the clinic was only a little bit of the encouragement I have felt, as I also got to work/sit with patients receiving treatments at our clinic. Though there was only so much that I could do considering my position, it was still very rewarding witnessing our patients feel better through time with our treatments. If anyone is thinking of entering the mental health field, I do
think that this location is great, especially if it is your first internship. I do not recommend being shy and to make the most of your time here! I think that it is also great to keep in mind how rewarding the journey will be in the long haul.
