My internship at Foster Kinship taught me how to better manage my time and handle an overwhelming workload. This is an important skill to learn as I will need to handle an extremely busy schedule in my future career. I want to pursue a career in family law and focus on representing children’s best interests in adoption/guardianship cases. Therefore, I believe that my experience with Foster Kinship will benefit my future career and open many doors for me down the road. I was able to represent children in need during my time in this internship and I truly felt like I was taking a step in the right direction for my future. These families had no idea how to handle the situations they were in and we were able to provide them with comfort and aid. Seeing how relieved the families were after receiving our assistance reminded me why I am so passionate about my career path. Foster Kinship gave me an insight of the harsh situations I will have to face in my future career. Obtaining a position in this field requires a strong heart and mentality as these clients are going through heartbreaking situations. We have to keep strong in order to provide the best care possible and this can begin taking a toll over time. A piece of advice I would give to incoming interns is to take advantage of the opportunity they have been given. Use this opportunity to gain an insight into a career they are interested in and see if it is what they truly want to pursue.
