For this semester I chose to intern with Infinity Hospice Center. I currently work in the medical field and was looking to become more well-rounded and understand all part of healthcare. I have been working on an ambulance here in Las Vegas and currently also work in the emergency room at one of the local hospitals. That experience has given me both pre-hospital and in-hospital experience. Being on the ambulance and in the ER, we do not too much deal with patients who are on hospice so I thought it would be beneficial to take this internship in order to get a better understanding. This opportunity has been very insightful to say the least and I believe it will definitely benefit me and make me a better healthcare provider. I think it is very important that people understand hospice care and all that it entails. It is not just for people who are terminally ill, but it also provides palliative care as well for people with chronic diseases. It is not a death sentence and is a resource that I believe many people with diseases such as M.S. could definitely benefit from. It was very rewarding to sit with these people and their families and get to know them. I have found that it is the little things in hospice that make all the difference. I also spent time in the office building which was nice because I got to experience the administrative side as well. The people at Infinity Hospice are always working hard to ensure that all of their patients and families are well taken care of and are matched with volunteers who fit with their needs. I would one hundred percent recommend this internship in the future, and I hope to continue to work and volunteer with them at the conclusion of this semester!
