For the Spring 2022 semester, I had the opportunity and pleasure of interning at the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada (LACSN). The Legal Aid Center is a nonprofit organization that provides legal advice and representation to low income and vulnerable people that are not able to afford an attorney. I worked under their Family Justice Project, specifically under their immigration department within the firm. A lot of my time was spent helping the attorneys by translating documents that were needed for client’s immigration and family cases and conducting research for those same cases. When going through the list of possible places to intern at, LACSN really stood out to me because it was not only within the career path I want to take, but immigration is something I am considering focusing on once I become an attorney. With that being said, I thought this opportunity would be perfect so I would get a closer look at how the immigration process works and what it takes to build a case. This internship definitely will benefit me in my future career because not only do I have some sort of experience already on my resume, but I believe I will be able to utilize the things I learned in the future. I have always said in whatever career path I decide to take, I want to help people and I think working with LACSN made me realize that I will absolutely be able to do that as an attorney and it will be very rewarding and worth it at the end of the day. However, with that in mind, after completing my internship with them I also now know that I need more experience in order to secure a position in this field, such as learning how to prepare documents, knowing what documents need to be submitted, learning how to file them, and things that you learn as you go. Overall, I do not regret participating in this internship and I think it was very beneficial.

Hello Karen,
Your internship experience sounds like it was extremely fullfilling and provided would great experience. Moreover you helped people who really needed it, and I think that is amazing. I know being able to obtain , proper representation can be detrimental for people especially for issues like immigration. In regards to your future career endeavors , I have lawyers in my family who have interned and also worked in Legal Aid. It is good experience for them and led to more opportunities down the line, and when you apply to law school this is definetly beneficial for your application.
