I did my internship at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, in the Education department. The Education department primarily focused on education materials and programs for outreaches and events for the museum. I do not necessarily think that there are many educational requirements needed for this internship, as it can be a fairly versatile experience, depending on the education that you already have. As this internship had little to do with my major, but I still felt like I learnt quite a bit there. Such as the education program I created, where I decided to focus on the topic of blood coagulation, which was something I was willing to talk about because I was knowledgeable about it. However, the topic was more or less our choosing, as long as we could educate the guests at the museum about said topic, so I think anyone could be fit for this internship.
Although I do not intend to pursue a career in the Anthropology, or museum related, field—this internship helped me hone my knowledge that I already knew and how to relay that knowledge effectively to an audience. I believe the presentation and communication skills I learnt at this internship will serve me well in my future career, as these are important skills that will be useful in any type of field. As even though my focus was in the Education department, I learnt a lot about the other departments too, due to the wonderful accommodation of the people at the museum. I think that this internship will really be a valuable experience for me, as it was a new experience beyond my other internships.

Hi Sydnee, thank you for sharing! I'm glad that I read your blog post because I am a History major hoping to find an internship more relevant to my studies than my internship this semester and this one sounds like a very useful experience! I was a little hesitant to choose a history-related internship this semester because I'm unsure about sticking to this field after college, but I didn't consider all of the transferrable skills involved in this field! The development of communication, summarization, and presentation skills in this internship sounds awesome, great for you for making the most out of this experience to make you more well-rounded for your career!
