The Afrikan Black Coalition internship has benefited my future career by allowing me to improve my communication

skills and develop familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. This internship will continue to benefit my future career by allowing me to be further informed on how marginalized communities (particularly Black communities) are subjugated due to a lack access to basic necessities. It will also help me understand how to cultivate a stronger network for Black people within the Las Vegas area. My internship ties into my major of study as I have garnered research interest in understanding the importance of environmental justice and how systemic racism can affect environmental quality. It allows me to have access to resources to have a brief introduction to various issues that affect Black communities. For reference, my major of study is African American Studies (and Philosophy with a Law and Justice concentration), but I want to continue my education in Environmental Law. The educational requirements needed for one to succeed in this internship are having basic knowledge of African American history and an understanding of how systemic racism affects Black communities. Although my position at my internship is temporary, I do see myself continuing to advocate for Black communities and other marginalized people. The experience one will need in order to be full-time is brief knowledge of African American history, basic technical knowledge, and experience with networking and working in an office space. Also, having a sense of wanting to advocate for and support the Black communities is needed. A piece of advice I have for incoming interns is always to ask questions.
