This internship gave me good exposure to the future patient groups that I would like to work with. One of the possible career paths that I would really like to get into is helping victims of domestic violence and sexual assaults. It helped me gain practical experience in this field and showed me what it would be like if I decided to go into this line of work. This internship does tie into my major of study, but not that much. I major in Hospitality Management and Psychology. This internship helped me improve my skills when it comes to how to handle emergency situations, how to calm provoked clients down, and problem-solving, which can all be very helpful no matter which career path I decide to pursue. I am interested in this line of work because of my personal experience and the emotional rewards that come with the job. It can be intense sometimes, but to be able to help clients move on from the rock bottom of their lives, even just a few, makes me feel like I am doing something meaningful. In order to pursue a full-time position in this field, the training I need to go through includes understanding how the system works and how to remain professional in all situations. Professionalism, problem-solving skills, and kindness are all traits needed in order to pursue a career in this field. I would advise the interns to be kind, to ask for learning opportunities, and try to have a good relationship with everyone they come across in this position.
I became friends with one of the girls at the shelter and she made a ginger cookie with my name on it for me :)

I know you are still balancing between your two majors, but I know you'll be great at everything you pursue! Partially because of the background you have in Psychology and better understanding people. Good luck!
