My internship at the Integrity in Growth and Opportunity PAC (IGOP) has been a valuable experience for my future career in politics. As a political science major, working on a PAC and with political campaigns has provided me with valuable insight into the inner workings of the political process before and between elections.
One of the most beneficial aspects of this internship has been the opportunity to work closely with experienced political operatives, campaign managers, and even candidates. This has allowed me to learn about political strategy and tactics, as well as gain practical experience in fundraising, voter outreach, and other essential skills.
In terms of educational requirements, I believe that having a strong foundation in political science was beneficial for success in this internship. Additionally, having basic knowledge of campaign finance laws and regulations was also helpful.
Sadly, with the internship at IGOP coming to a close, I am even more interested in pursuing a career in politics than when I started. My desire to eventually run for public office was also amplified. However, I recognize that there is still much for me to learn and many skills for me to develop. In order to secure a full-time position in this field, I will need to gain more experience working on political campaigns and continue to build my network of contacts.
One piece of advice I have for incoming interns is to be proactive and take advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow. Don't be afraid to ask questions and seek out mentors who can provide guidance and support.
The highlight of my internship experience was most definitely the opportunity to visit our nation's capital, Washington D.C. This photo is of me standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Visiting this monument was absolutely mind-blowing. The architecture, history, and meaning truly is spectacular, and it was a fantastic experience to visit. It is crazy to think about an America without Abraham Lincoln and all he did for all Americans.
