Voting Rights and Democracy Interns will have an opportunity to make an impact through the ACLU of Nevada’s Voter Protection Alliance, a nonpartisan program devoted to safeguarding the freedom to cast a ballot for all eligible Nevada voters. Participating students can gain meaningful experience in community organizing, political canvassing, field team leadership, election administration, voting rights laws, ballot counting and certification processes, ballot curing, and more, depending on each student’s enthusiasm and career interests.
During a student’s first term with the ACLU of Nevada, internships are volunteer positions, but students may receive academic credit for their work if they choose. Students who excel may be invited to return for additional terms and receive compensation for such.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
All interns will get a chance to spend some time at the ACLU of Nevada office and get to know more about our work. Whenever possible, we want to work with students to tailor learning goals to each individual. Day-to-day activities may include:
Leading a team in community canvassing, phone banking, text banking, and other volunteer recruitment activities.
Collaborating on Know Your Rights-style voter education efforts.
Assisting voters who call our voting rights hotlines with questions.
Serving as a legal observer at polling locations, ballot-counting facilities, etc.
Contacting voters who need to “cure” their ballot after Election Day.
